"Last One Out, Get The Lights"
|
Medium: Acrylic paint on Illustration Board. | This project was called Re: Value, our artistic response to make a value dominant work in my Fall 2012 Alternative Media: Foundations & Theory class at the University of Nebraska-Omaha. I personally chose this cropped photo of a Halo 3 video game poster because I've always loved and grew up with video games my whole life, one of my favorites being the Halo series. I chose to make the painting a cropped version of a Halo 3 poster that hangs on my door in my house, and that I am a big fan of black and white images with one area that focuses on color, so I chose the visor because the character, "Master Chief," is looking out on to a sunset of fallen wreckage of the space war currently happening in the game. I sketched the subject matter freehandedly, and then painted on with acrylic. The title I chose is an actual title of one of the levels in this Halo 3 game, titled "Last One Out, Get The Lights," so I adopted this title as a play on words as a perfect multiple meaning title describing my work as: Being an actual level title which relates to the painting, the relation to the lights in the title reflecting that the painting is a value dominant work with an emphasis on the light reflecting off the visor, and the fact that I myself have played through this level and adopting the title as paying homage to a great game.
